8 blasts rocked Bangalore today killing 3 including a women and injuring several others. The death toll is feared to increase as all the blast took place in highly crowded areas.

The explosions took place within a few minutes of each other at Madiwala, Adugodi, Pantharapalya and Vittal Mallya Road this afternoon, police said.

The first bomb blast took place at around 1:30 pm at the Madivala checkpost in the city, while the second blast has been reported from Mysore road. The Third blast has been reported from Ashoknagar area.
Lakshmi (65) was killed in blast that occured in Madiwala Check post. She was waiting for bus at the Bus Stop in Madiwala Check post. Her husband Ravi is also critically injured and shifted to near by hospital. Two people are critically injured in the blast and are shifted to St John's hospital. Cell phones are jammed.

City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said timer devices and explosives were used in the explosions. The police commissioner also assured that law and order is maintained in the state. Thousands of policemen are being subjected to handle the law and orderin this situation.

According to reports, gelatin stick could have been used in the 'low intensity' blasts.

IT companies in and around the city are requested to close and transportation has been completely stopped.Bus stands, railway stations and Airports are sealed.Public are instructed to stay in their homes till the threat decreases.

Boundaries to the state and to the city are blocked and large number of police men are involved in patrolling and vehicle checkups.

Police suspect some of the banned terrorist groups may be involved in the explosion. In the national capital, Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta spoke to the state chief secretary and sought a detailed report about the incident.

"We are in the initial stages of the investigation. We are in constant touch with the state government. We hope to have a detailed report by evening,” he said.

While no one has claimed responsibility so far for the blasts, sources in the Union Home Ministry suspected Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba along with the local support of SIMI to be behind the attacks.



Home Ministry condemns serial blasts

The Union Home Ministry is closely monitoring the situation in Bangalore in the wake of today's serial blasts, which killed two people and injured several others.

The Union Home Secretary -- Madhukar Gupta -- and other senior officials are in constant touch with Karnataka government officials, a ministry spokesman said.

"A senior Home Ministry official is closely monitoring the situation," he said. Meanwhile, Home Minister Shivraj Patil condemned the blasts in eastern parts of Bangalore, and offered all assistance to the Karnataka government to deal with the situation.


Sonia, BJP reacts

Condemning the attack, V K Malhotra, Spokesperson, BJP said:"We deeply condemn the attack. The Centre ought to initiate adequate measures to curb terrorism."

Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa has called for a cabinet meeting at around 5.15 pm to discuss the situation.

Sonia Gandhi has also reacted to the situation and has categorically reiterated that it was a cowardly act by anti-social elements.


Terrorism is a national problem: Amar Singh

Reacting to the serial blasts, the Samajwadi Party said terrorism is a national problem and it should be resolved through "political consensus".

"Terrorism is a national problem, unfortunately we, politicians, are always wasting our energy over fighting with each other. There are important issues like terrorism, education, health and internal security, on which there should be political consensus," party General Secretary Amar Singh said.
